About the Creators:
Cathy & Maralee Greene
Cathy and Maralee Greene, sisters, were born in Pasadena, Ca. to actively artistic parents.
Growing up in the 50's and 60's and being surrounded by art supplies and the freedom to use them, they both accumulated much knowledge of the “art experience”.
Cathy went, on scholarship, to Chouinard Art Institute and then into book illustration in San Francisco. Moving back east to work with a gardening magazine, she discovered leather work by making a book jacket for her I Ching.
After High School, Maralee studied art at Pasadena City College and then on to San Francisco Art Institute. She went back east to The John C. Campbell Folk School to study Ceramics, but ended up learning tomato farming and weaving instead. Back at UC Extension, with Fred Wolfschlager, Maralee finally studied ceramics.
In the 1970's, Maralee and Cathy joined forces with a sandal maker in Nashville, Tennessee at the Poor Cow Leather Shop across the street from Vanderbilt University, where they made all kinds of leather bags and garments. They had a lot of fun.
The opportunity to join forces has presented itself to the sisters once again.
They are using their life time study of function, style and design along with a deep respect for the animals used to make these exceptional bags.
Their bags are now available online, at art fairs, and at a few select boutiques up and down the northern California coast.
